Tom Roche joined executives from several top Australian companies recently to complete the 100km Smith Family Challenge. The challenge aims to raise money to provide educational support for disadvantaged Australian children.
The Smith Family is an educational support charity helping Australian children succeed at school. 1 in 10 Australian children are growing up in disadvantaged circumstances, and the Challenge aims to raise much needed funds to provide these children with essential school books, shoes, bags and uniforms.
Since 2008, the Challenge has raised $3.8 million dollars contributing to help breaking the cycle of disadvantaged children through education. “We had set a fundraising target of $750,000 this year, which will help nearly 1,000 disadvantaged Australian children with their education,” said Tony Davis, Board Director of The Smith Family.
Competing in his eight challenge this year, Tom Roche is a dedicated supporter of the annual event. The 100km course is designed to be especially tough, giving participants a real sense of achievement. This year, the event raised an outstanding $845,000 through donations. 100% of funds raised will go directly to The Smith Family programs.
