Sydney Airport Corporation Limited
SNP Security has been providing security services at Kingsford Smith Airport 1970. Having emerged as winners in the competitive tender for the Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL) security contract at the end of 2006, meeting the new tender’s requirements was a major focus for SNP during 2007.
The new contract was the first for SACL in the “post-911” era and required revolutionary changes to the way we did business.
The terms of the contract resulted in more staff being employed, more technology being adapted, and more training taking place. Rigorous performance assessment practices are part of everyday operations.
While the transition to the SACL contract was taking place, the Australian government responded to world events by introducing new Liquids & Gels (known as LAGS) security screening regulations. To meet the new regulations, we undertook a huge capability development exercise. This included recruiting and training over 100 new aviation security officers – no small task in the tight prevailing labour market – as well as training existing staff on the new requirements.
The new measures also brought about significant changes for the travelling public, and it is a credit to the SNP team that the implementation of such a major regulatory change was executed so smoothly.
SNP’s involvement with APEC affected most parts of the business, and Aviation was no exception. We worked hand-in-hand with the APEC taskforce and other agencies, deploying 50 expert aviation security officers who undertook vehicle screening and searching, passenger and visitor screening, and provided security for arriving and departing staff and dignitaries. It was a smooth operation, seamlessly carried out by a highly capable team.
"SNP have been providing a wide range of security services and they have shown a responsive approach to ever changing demands. Each request for change and added service is responded to with new initiatives and new innovations - demonstrating that they offer the right management and staff, the necessary procedural protocols to achieve security outcomes, and the essential commitment to high levels of custom service"
Ron Elliot, Sydney Airport Corporation Security Manager Kingsford Smith Airport, Sydney.
